Day at the Zoo

looks rather morbid to me actually

don't they all look blind?

i sure don't want to be that piece of food flying through the air

why you stare at me?

20 yr olds being all mature and serious

how sinister

why they copy us?

zebra crossing zebra crossing

ah see? the 20 yr old fake ice cube

seconds later, the giraffe shot out it's tongue and devoured the child

i feel like a kid again! it's quite funny how in some ways, the zoo has changed dramatically, but in some ways it's the exact same thing that we've seen when we were 5 years old. like the polar bear exhibit -- still the same zinc roof and pathetic little pool, with the polar bear probably playing with the exact same fake ice cube it played with 20 years ago. but it was really fun, if i try my best to forget the heat and the commando mosquitoes that relentlessly consumed us while we tried to forget about them.

my last interview!

today i go for my last interview with capitaland, after which i can FINALLY decide on what firm to go to. if i get in, it will be between CapitaLand, Keppel Land and Surbana, and everyone of them sounds good! i guess i'll never know if i make the right decision, but it's up to me to make whatever decision work for me! don't want to end up breaking my bond, cos there's really no way i can pay for it.

talking about bonds, it's so weird hor, a few years ago all those bond breakers get their pictures placed on newspapers, but now nobody gets any publicity anymore! must be cos they realized that instead of not being able to get jobs, these people instantly get courted by every single company in the world cos if you can break bond you must be damn zai right? more zai than edb more zai than psc and saf! but i am not zai enough so i cannot break bond :)

so will i end up as an architect or a developer? will find out by this week.

all too soon

all too soon
the birds have flown away
the bag of crumbs still in your hand

all too soon
words turn to accusations
your love becomes an acquaintance

all too soon
your chances have gone to waste
and chances are they'll never come again

all too soon
everyone's gone to heaven
and there's no one left to call your name

so please be
more than just living
more than just being
more than just leaving it
for another day

please be
more than just breathing
more than just wishing
more than just waiting for
life to come your way

all too soon
the snow turns into rivers
and flowers are all around us

all too soon
a boy turns into a soldier
and a girl becomes a mother

all too soon
the sun is on your shoulder
though your dreams are far from over

all too soon
it's no longer an infatuation
my heart is your possession

so please be
more than just living
more than just being
more than just leaving it
for another day

please be
more than just breathing
more than just wishing
more than just waiting for
love to come your way

four birds

heh, looks like i'm starting to love design a lot more after leaving cornell! just like how i fell in love with music shortly after vowing not to take another piano exam in my life. anyhow, this is a simple piece that came from a little thumbnail sketch i doodled on my sketchbook. i welcome comments and critiques!

yangyang's sunrise

after looking at the spinning dreams drawing i did, yy demanded that i make a drawing for her too. here it is! it's called sunrise. not very professional but passable lah i think :)

firsts

on saturday, i went swimming for the first time in more than a year. had to buy new trunks cos the old ones are either gone or not elastic anymore, and i didn't really want to find out either way. so i went to j8 and got my brand new trunks and hiked to the pool at bishan which was TOTALLY FULL of little kids being bullied by their instructors thrashing around madly in the chlorine solution.

taught flyn how to open eyes in water so as to make goggles unnecessary. well, i didn't really teach lah, just stood there grimacing while she tortured herself till she could do it. yay! now can save drowning kids in canals without needing to carry goggles around wherever we go. i also relived many childhood memories like lying down at the bottom of the pool experiencing the critical angle of reflection; somersaulting; squirting water from my hands; swimming like a stingray at the bottom of the pool; half heartedly trying to do the butterfly stroke (nope, didn't work).

after swimming, i ate s11 ban mian (wooden board noodles) for the first time in years and was exceedingly happy. kinda disappointed that the auntie didn't give me more ikan bilis but i guess the food prices are going up lah so must ration. i forgive you auntie.

after forgiving auntie, i went to play poker, in which i made 80 cents (which i gave to luke) out of a $20 buy-in, and then took a $10 taxi ride home which made me feel like i actually lost. the ride home also made me perspire a lot for some reason, which dehydrated me so much that i, well, died.

the end.

meowmeow's lament

I put Meowmeow down
outside, and she gazed back up
(forlorn; ears twitching) -
"Why do you chase me
away from the warmth of home?
I thought you loved me."

my first real artwork in a long time

after a long hiatus, i am drawing again! my favourite medium, colour pencil, because i can't do anything else. but ok wat right, from far still look like painting right?

anyway, this piece is called Spinning Dreams and fortunately or unfortunately, i do not own it anymore. hopefully there will be many more to follow in time to come.

and ok shameless plug -- if anyone needs to design anything, feel free to ask!

i miss ecp!

finally, after months of sadness and despair, i finally got to rollerblade again! and i can still jump 180 deg without wiping out so i'm quite satisfied. it was really fun being able to rollerblade with my rollerblading buddy winson again after so long, and i hope there will be many more occasions to improve ourselves! anyway, to summarize the day, iris was brave after falling down and hurting her elbow; winson is still zai (like me haha so bhb); shuyun didn't hurt herself and so has hopefully regained her confidence; flyn almost perfected her turn and is showing great potential; peter was cool cos he can take off his shirt and still look cool; and i was happy. cos i love to rollerblade.

before the excursion, meowmeow had her own excursion -- up the stairs and into my bedroom and into my bed. she was happy too, after depositing fur all over my room and getting loved by everyone still. she really needs to do more exercise though... getting old and lazy! yah i understand you're not young anymore but you gotta walk around a bit more wat! life is short don't sleep it away ok meowmeow?

after the excursion, me flyn and yun went on another excursion to parkway, where we ate raw fish and pink lotus root and japanese jelly. raw fish never fails to remind me that being slack can always be a good thing, as long as you make it look good. these japanese are geniuses man.

FCS gathering

6 generations of FCS! that was the range of people that came over to flyn's place for bbq potluck. thank God it didn't rain -- we got to hang out on the roof garden which overlooks some mysterious hill that's probably some army training ground or something. lots of lighting flashing behind the hill, but the rain thankfully stayed away. the bbq was fun! ipa (definitely wrong spelling) dutifully did most of the work though... her gentle strokes of the fan did a lot more to light up the charcoal than my frantically flapping arms hehe.

everyone was awed by the exhibitionist toilets, deer head, and city satay gets raving reviews! we also learnt that too much ginger in the marinade makes chicken really tender, so not very good for bbq but fantastic for whatever else that requires really tender chicken. oh yah, we even lent some much needed support to the Axis of Evil by consuming North Korean liquor.

and now i'm dead tired. getting old liao!

Big sending off

sadako spotted at T3

my sisters!

my parents!

why am i the only one who is sad that meimei is leaving :(

wow... 2 car loads of people to see my sis off to belgium! mummy/daddy/yy/me/flyn/qh/ahma. cannot fit in 1 car, need to have entourage. nice to see ah ma again, she was being all cute and funny i love her to bits! and qh likes battlestar galactica, unlike meimei who doesn't know how to appreciate great shows. oh, thanks for the beautiful bag, now i can have something to lug my heavy laptop everywhere. yy was being her usual bratty self cos we went to lerkthai instead of soup kitchen at T3, but was pacified by the agar agar.

and daddy bought mummy earrings! like, totally random can? wow. haha so sweet, mummy was all giggly and beaming after that.

capped off the night by being a taxi driver and going all the way to clementi, then upper paya lebar, then upper thomson, then upper paya lebar again. exhausted. but happy. because.

what a wonderful bday

so it all started with winson wanting to celebrate my bday with me (so nice right)... i wanted to be creative and so i told shuyun let's invite his friends and give him a surprise! i'll have dinner with him and after that everyone can jump out and pounce on him and stuff... but who knew that shuyun would invite my friends too! and evelyn! wow. awesomeness man. so i thot i was really clever and everything but no.... pple clevererer. so happy to see evelyn holding my bday cake!

it was great catching up with cornell peeps and my jc friends too, and meeting some of winson's friends whom i will no doubt see a lot more of in the coming months. and my cake was yummy! some chocolate truffle thing with omg ginormous stobelis on top :)

anyway, i had to bluff winson about ktving after dinner cos we were supposed to have drinks at canopy but he didn't know that. however, clever me didn't think of a fake ktv location beforehand so when he asked which ktv i booked i was like ummm...errr.... wait lemme think what was it oh um... marina square....um.... k...box...? didn't know how that manage to sound convincing but i think i barely managed not to screw it up.

haha wish i was in the carpark with the other friends i'm sure it must have looked like a riot about to happen. i mean, with all the illegal gathering crap i'm surprised shuyun didn't get arrested and jailed... but then again, aiyah jail also nvm lah can just climb out of toilet window anytime... and then even better can get everyone sacked and demoted so fun!

ok so. applause for shuyun for being kickass, and applause to winson for being gong enough for this to happen.

sorry i didn't go zouk... haha why nobody wanna play poker and watch euro???? sigh.

interviews!

so i've been to all three firms, and i can't decide! part of me wishes that i didn't have a choice, that the moment i arrived in singapore some guy with a grey suit and shades comes up to me and says, "Kenneth this is your posting, go."

but oh well, should be happy already... like the saying goes, 生在福中不知福. no, i will be contented!

ooh baked cupcakes today so happi. i really thought they were awesome, but maybe it's cos i had a tiny hand in it lah. and i know how to squeeze icing! you know, they should totally make star-shaped openings for glue bottles. toothpaste tubes too. and shampoo. and garden hoses! so cool lor can't stand it.

deja vu

sitting here
between a rock and a
hard place offering no reprieve
from the dull pain that
squeezes and never
lets me
go
to sleep and never waken
could that be the cure
to this dread that
falls like winter
snow
like a thick blanket of
suffocating whiteness
bleaching all colour away and
leaving only this lone figure
naked and shivering
knowing that it will not end here
but like the crashing of the waves on crumbling rock
will happen again
and again
and again
until all that is left
are silent, faceless crystals of sand.

Back from my hiatus :)

finally, the big piece of paper

plants you don't find in singapore

after 2 days of traumatic packing... i'm done!

yy's stupid dandelion craze

mummy and daddy beside the coolest natural river ever! enfield glen!

my mummy so happening

daddy with darth vader hat

werm.

don't jump!

don't jump!

don't jump!

so pretty where else can you see rivers like that?

three trees

pics from graduation and our trip to enfield glen, in my opinion one of the most amazing works of God in NY state. my geology professor told us that the movements of tectonic plates caused right-angled cracks in the sedimentary rock, and so when the river flowed down the mountain it carved itself a right-angled path down. it's almost like there was an invisible architect at work here, trying to create a modern river system!

anyway, so happy that my family came to see my graduation, hope they're proud of me! now to find a good job.

in other news, i had an awesome first few days in singapore. and i learnt how to salsa! haha not really lah more like i hobbled around a bit and stressed evelyn out with my incompetence. but thankfully she's encouraging me and bluffing me that i'm very good. i like that. i like to feel like i'm damn cool :)

starting my interviews too and wishing that i had done my portfolio earlier... ugh.

and i did my ippt! and passed! and got silver! 5/5/5/5/3. 3 for the 2.4km run of course -- i think all the cycling did me some good, otherwise i would have most certainly gone over the 12:00min limit. yay...$200 from the government for being strong and fit!

next year will go for gold.

haha. as if.
